In June 1996 the
F C C opened its National Call Center in Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania. The Call Center provides public service via a toll free telephone number.
Fifteen workers - along with our
families - from F C C field stations across the country were reassigned to the Call Center.
While we brought with us a lot of 'institutional knowledge,'
none of us knew how to operate a call center. We had no experience, few
resources and very limited support.
But, under the smart, strong leadership of our Call Center
Director, Cynthia, we made the Call Center work. Our
'alpha male' team leader, Larry, kept morale so high, he made the
Call Center a desirable place to work. With that, we grew, gaining
new team members and greater strength. Finally we made the Call Center one
of the greatest accomplishments in the history of the F C C, achieving what has
become known as the 'Call Center Miracle.'
Cynthia, Larry, and a few of our other pioneers have
retired or gone on to other endeavors. And with the coming and going of
several generations of new management, the Call Center has undergone changes -
and various re-namings. Those of us remaining have continued to grow
professionally, and our success continues.
This page is dedicated to those early Call Center
pioneers, and to the team members who joined us in achieving the 'Miracle.'
