We are providing a search engine here, plus other search facilities, aimed mainly at club members. The aim being to have members come to our own site every time they "hit the net". This way, they will, hopefully, read their own pages every time they log on, thus not missing anything new.
Then we hope they will happily do their net surfing from here.
Anyone else is, of course, welcome to use these facilities.

To return to this page after your search, use the Back button at top left of your screen. This should bring you back to us.
(Some sites will not allow the Back button to operate & loop you back to their page. If this occurs, click on the small triangle alongside the Back button. A drop-down menu should appear for you).

(TIP: Have your Email facility minimised on the task bar while searching on the net, then you will not lose connection with your ISP if clicking on the X closes your browser. Have it set to check for new mail every five minutes. You do this in Tools/Options, in Outlook Express).
There are also some quite good programmes available on the net, which help to prevent dis-connection. 'Stay Connected' is one such; once free but now there is a cost. See also, reference to Keep It Alive on our Newsmag page.

Did you ever wonder who goes to find what you are searching for on the internet? To see who it is on our search-engine, click on Tyke.
Click on X, top right corner of screen, to return to Web-Search.

If you wish to try any of the sites listed on our Cool Sites page, you can copy and paste them into our engine.
Go to the page, select (highlight) the site you want, then right click on it.
In the drop-down window, left click on copy, then return to this page.
Right click in the engine search-window, then in the drop-down window, left click on paste. The item you copied should appear.
Make sure that the choice to search the web is checked, then do the search. Easy!

OK, we know you knew that! But some may not and this was for those who didn't.
This tip is repeated on the Cool Sites page for your convenience. Have fun!

If our search engine cannot find the site, click on one of the search engine links below. Paste the address into their search window and activate search.

If you wish, you can click on the link to any of the search engines listed below.

The first list consists of engines which restrict (or have an option on them to restrict) your search to Australian sites.
Some let you narrow your search to Australian sites by including domain name .au, which usually needs to be placed after the words of your actual search. Experiment!
There is a snag here. Not all Australian sites use the .au appendix.

Altavista | Anzwers | Boomerang | Excite | GOeureka | Looksmart

Matilda | NineMSN |  News.com. | OZsearch | Webwombat | Yahoo.au

The following list consists of international search engines. Their manner of operation will vary as there are a number of ways in which such engines are set up.
We do not want to get too technical here so will just leave it to you to try them out. As we said above, experiment! That's what it's all about.

If you do not find what you are searching for on one, try another.
They will not have all the same things listed on them.
Some may want to inundate you with cookies; if too persistent, try one of the others.
That will be a mis-fortune cookie for the one you've left!

Many internet sites will also plague you with 'pop-up' advertisements.
You can control these to some extent, by installing a small programme.
There are free programmes like this on the internet. One such is 'Killad'.

There are also 'pop-down' ads, which place themselves on the bar below your screen, then maximise themselves on your screen unexpectedly. These seem to be more difficult to control.

 AOL | C4 | Dogpile | Excite | Go | Google | GoTo | HotBot | Kanoodle

 HandiLinks | Lycos | maMMa | metacrawler | NationalDirectory

  NorthernLight OpenDirectory Webcrawler | Yahoo

Our next list consists of search engines of particular countries.
Some may have same name as others already listed but they will be different. Some may be in English, others in language of the country (which is great if you can read the language, remember, we have a lot of people from other countries residing in Australia) while some may give you the option of choosing a language.

Here is a search engine with a difference!
KartOO is a meta-search engine which will use a number of other popular search engines to search for your subject.

The results will be presented in a different format to that of other engines, however.
KartOO uses Flash to present a sort of site-map, with the relative importance of sites found indicated by differences in the sizes of the graphics displayed.

The links shown will indicate linkage to other sites when you mouse-over them, plus there are short decriptions which display at the side.
If your computer is not already Flash enabled, you can download the latest version on the KartOO site.
You might find that the links do not work properly if you have task-bars of other search engines operational. If so, turn them off.

KartOO

These are just a few of the large number of search engines available on the net.
If you wish, you can find more by using our engine or any of those shown.
The world is your oyster and it is at your fingertips. Go for it!

Club members: If you would like to make our Home Page your Home Page and have your browser open in it every time, here's how:-
In Internet Explorer, bring up the Home Page of our site. In the address box you will see a small icon in front of the address. Left click on the icon and drag it to Home (the little house above the address box) and release the mouse button. That is all you have to do.

In Netscape, there is more to do. Bring up our Home Page. Go to Edit, Select Preferences. In the dialogue box, select Navigator, then click the Use Current Page button then click OK. That should be it.

If you ever wish to change to something else, just go through the same procedure with whatever page you wish to change to.

Here is another search engine, placed as a courtesy to one of our free listings.
