OPERATION: DATE (Dance Actually Threatens Everybody) mini-synopsis: the KND go to a formal dance being held by the Delightful Children from Down the Lane summary: the KND receive an invitation to the Kids All-Town Cotillion (the biggest shindig in town, apparently). Numbuhs Two through Five are excited about this until Numbuh One points out that it is being hosted by the Delightful Children. the others are disappointed when they think this means they can't go, but Numbuh One surprises them by saying that they are going--to investigate what the DCFDTL are really up to. the real issue, of course, is who goes to the dance with who. Numbuhs Two and Five pair up, as do Three and Four (interestingly, Numbuh Four doesn't have a spaz attack at the prospect of going on a date with Three). Numbuh One is left dateless. desperate times call for desperate measures, and so Nigel calls up Lizzie, saying she is needed for a mission of the utmost importance, upon which she says, "i'd love to go on a date with you, Nigie!" "Nigie" insists it's not a date, not for the last time. they arrive at the Delightful's mansion, all decked-out in formal wear. the Delightful Children greet their guests, making sure to taunt Numbuh One about his "date." all the other kids (Numbuhs Two through Five included) all are having a great time (eating, dancing), and only Numbuh One treats the evening like a mission, running scans on the punch, and monitoring the area. by the end of the evening there have been no out-of-the-ordinary events, and even Numbuh One is beginning to let his guard down, speculating that it is just a dance, after all. alas, he should have known better, as they find out that the camera being used to take "official" dance photos is actually a neural suggestion ray, and that every kid at the party has been delightfulized except for Numbuh One and Lizzie! a mad chase ensues, where Nigel and Lizzie run from the others (even Numbuhs Two through Five!) who swarm after the two like zombies. Lizzie, however, still has her heart set on a photo, and she fortunately has brought along her own camera. it turns out that her camera flash undoes the delightfulization ray flash, so Numbuh One commandeers her camera and takes photos of all the other kids, returning them to normal. by then, Lizzie is fed up and says Nigel has been a neglectful date, and Numbuh One finally snaps, insisting the evening was never a date, and calls Lizzie "date crazy". he then leaves to deal with the Delightful Children, who are very upset that he has ruined their evening. however, they make up for this with a new set of lasers--the kind that destroy, rather than delightfulize. but Lizzie walks in at the last minute, and in a rage, yells at Nigel for embarrassing her in front of everybody. while she is shouting and gesticulating, she manages to spill punch on a fuse box, which short circuits the lasers and blows up the entire Delightful Mansion in a pretty display of fireworks. after all the kids have escaped from the building, naturally. "Nigie" calls Lizzie "brilliant" and throws his arms around her, and all is forgiven. quotable quotes: Numbuh One: "steady, team. remember, we're on a mission." bizarro's blathering: does anyone else see the similarities of this episode to Operation: CAMP? a mission that no one else but Numbuh One thinks is real, then there's an annoyance (Bradley the skunk, in CAMP, and of course Lizzie in this one) that Numbuh One can't stand and he thinks is ruining the mission, but then the annoyance ends up saving the day? hm, maybe it's just me. |
