OPERATION: CHAD (Charming Hero Avoids Destruction)

mini-synopsis: the entire KND Global Organization is being attacked by Mega Mom and Destructo Dad

summary:

KND operatives across the globe are being attacked!  Numbuhs One through Five pick up a distress signal, and although they can't make out the message, they are able to track it to it's source.  when they arrive, they are surprised to find Numbuh 274, "the greatest member of the Kids Next Door ever."  Numbuh 274 tells them that his message was a warning to stay away, not a call for help, because he is the target.  every operative near him has been attacked and "stupified" (caught in a stasis beam of some sort) and they will share a similar fate if they don't get away quickly.  to prove his point, they are attacked immediately by Mega Mom, and after a brief counter-attack, they retreat.  Numbuh 274 presses the others to leave him somewhere, as he is the target, and will only cause trouble for Numbuhs One through Five if he stays with them.  they refuse to do so, however, and take him back to the Treehouse.

back at the KND Treehouse, they barely have time to regroup when they are attacked by Destructo Dad, who is joined soon afterwards by Mega Mom, and together they defeat Numbuhs One though Five, stupifying them.  Numbuh 274 declares he will defeat the two villains no matter what, as he is "the best there is."  they agree with him, saying he is the only one left!  they remove their helmets to reveal their identities--they're Numbuh 274's parents!  they thought his Numbuh was much too high, but now that all the other operatives have been stupified, he can be Numbuh One.  Numbuh 274 is horrified, saying they'll pay for what they've done.  he pulls out a device...which turns out to be a cell phone.  he quits the football team, the honor society, the drama club, etc, and his parents groan in pain at each one. they finally cave when he calls "Joe's tattoo parlor."  his parents de-stupify (un-stupify?) the other operatives, and Numbuh 274 apologizes for them, then leaves...to go to his violin lessons.

bizarro's blathering: i realize that i forgot to mention that Numbuh 274's real name was Chad.  hence the episode title.  but you already knew that, right?
the first time i saw CHAD, i found Numbuh 274 to be rather annoying.  he's the kind of kid you want to throw something small and hard at. :P  but after subsequent viewings, i started to kind of feel sorry for the guy.  his parents obviously push him to become the crazy over-achiever he is, and then don't praise him for his accomplishments.  after his cheesy "because i'm the best there is" line, a normal parent response would be "of course you are, you're our son!"  instead they say, "you're the only one left!" giving him no credit at all.  one round of family therapy here, please!
