I've read The Iliad three times, and The Odyssey once. I saw Troy the day after it opened, and loved it. I didn't really enjoy Alexander so much (but who did?) but it definitely has its moments. Mostly hoyay moments, it's true. I did read Fire From Heaven and The Persian Boy a long time ago, but I got quite upset with Mary Renault's treatment of Hephaistion, so I never read Funeral Games. I've also read Last of the Wine, which I enjoyed.

Please read and heed the ratings for the fic. So far, everything on this page is slash and probably always will be. The pictures for the title banners are photos from either Troy or Alexander; I saved them from Rotten Tomatoes.
Since these fics are based on so many different sources, I'll indicate which is which in each rec:
FFH = Fire From Heaven by Mary Renault
PB = The Persian Boy by Mary Renault
FG = Funeral Games by Mary Renault
Iliad = Homer's Iliad
Odyssey = Homer's Odyssey
Troy = Troy, starring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana and Sean Bean
Alexander = Alexander, starring Colin Farrell and Jared Leto
Gladiator = Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix
Herc = Hercules, starring Kevin Sorbo

On to the recommendations:
The Human Way by Thamiris (Herc, Ares/Iphicles, NC-17)

Hercules watches his brothers.
Swimming In A Dolphin Sea by Thamiris (Herc, Ares/Iphicles, Iphicles/other, NC-17)

While on a diplomatic mission, Iphicles fights with Ares, then, after a play, spends the night with one of the actors. Angsty, romantic, with about as much sex as architecture. A special bonus offer: lyrics to a bawdy Hercuverse drinking song.
Forgiving by Thamiris (Herc, Ares/Iphicles, Iphicles/other, NC-17)

Ares abandons Iphicles and the Corinthians to side with Caesar and Iphicles receives a gift.
The Sweet Taste of India by Qaddafi (Alexander, G)

Pure fluffy humour. The Macedonians learn about India.
One Of A Thousand Roads and Waking From A Dream by shalott (Gladiator, Maximus/Commodus, unrated)

I reread these this morning, and they're just as good as I remembered. Maximus and Commodus meet for the first time.
There Is Truth in Wine by Baranduin (PB, Alexander/Bagoas implied, Alexander/Hephaestion implied, PG)

While Alexander is away, Hephaistion and Bagoas get a chance to talk. I love the interactions between them.
Like a Man & He Too is Alexander by Qaddafi (PB, Hephaistion/Bagoas)

Both stories are in one file, though they're unrelated. I'm not so fond of the first one; though it's very well written, it doesn't appeal to me personally. I love the second one, though.
Follower by Gloria Mundi (Iliad, Achille/Patroclus, R)

My favourite Iliad story. Gloria Mundi writes with such an amazing and unique voice, perfect for the tone of the Iliad:
Neither of them will ever surrender to anyone else. Once Patroclus -- in Achilles' armour, a perfect fit at last -- has fallen to Hector's hand, Achilles will have to find other ways to love.
Achilles and Patroclus: like a girl, like a dog, like a ghost.
Messenger by Glora Mundi (Iliad, Achilles/Patroclus, R)

My other favourite Iliad story, because Gloria Mundi is just so talented.
"I will avenge you, when you're dead," he'd said to Achilles once.

"You think even Death can part us?" Achilles had murmured, pretending surprise. "Surely I will find my way back to your arms."

"And leave me waiting for you?" Patroclus had said, laughing. "No! I'll come to Hades, and bring you out with me." He'd sealed the vow with a kiss.

Achilles had kissed him back, and let the kiss seal his lips. That was not the fame he had been promised.
The death of Hector, and Achilles sends a message to Patroclus.
The Reconciliation by Shon Rowgan (LotW, Lysis/Alexias, PG-15)

What can I say? If you liked the book, you'll like this story. The end of the estrangement between Lysis and Alexias after the Isthmian Games.
Untitled Hector/Paris series by Montmorency (Troy, Hector/Paris, WIP, NC-17, incest)

Before the Trojan War, before Helen, before Andromache, there was Paris and Hector. And lots of hot sex. The summary for Chapter 7 is "Pouty Paris and Hector Hairshirt", which I think sums them up nicely.
Alone and Legend by pseudonihilist (PB, Alexander/Hephaistion, Alexander/Bagoas implied, R)

Far and away the best PB stories I've ever read. I just love Hephaistion's voice. After Alexander threatens to execute Hephaistion, he is understandably upset.
