Why In Space Would I Mind?

Disclaimers: Gundam Wing characters belong to Mixx Entertainment, Koichi Tokita, the SOTSU Agency, Sunrise, Kodansha and anyone I may have forgotten, not to me. I make no money off of this. The lyrics are from "We Live For Love" sung by Pat Benatar, and it belongs to Chrysalis records, I think.
your love contagious
one kiss is dangerous
and I have more to risk than you to lose
Heero knelt inside Wing Zero's hatch, wires in one hand, laptop beneath the other, and his mind nowhere near his work. Across the hangar, Duo was fighting with a console panel, struggling to lift it up and off. Instead, because of the awkward angle, he'd only succeeded in nipping his fingers and banging his knuckles against the metal. The American pilot paused and thought for a moment, and after a minute a broad smile broke out over his face.
Heero's eyes opened wide as Duo grabbed the top of Deathscythe's hatch and swung the lower half of his body up so that he could wrap his legs around the top of the safety harness contraption. After adjusting himself a bit, he let go of the hatch and hung upside down, braid dangling wildly. Now he easily grabbed the panel and tossed it aside, continuing in that position.
The Japanese pilot looked back down at his own repair work, then closed his eyes. Would he...? No, stupid idea. Duo is too good for me. He probably doesn't even like guys. Hell, I don't like guys. But I like Duo. Would he let me...? He shook his head. No, trying to kiss Duo would be reckless to the mission. There was just too much riding on their actions, they couldn't afford to jeopardize their energies like that.
I feel passion growing
I know that love is only
just one inch away
from striking us
Duo, meanwhile, glanced out of the corner of his eye at the other gundam. At first his odd angle made him stare too high, into the cold green eyes, but as he compensated he was rewarded with...cold blue eyes. He sighed and wondered which was emptier, the gundam's or the pilot's. A cocky grin broke out of him again. I know I could fill those eyes up.
Finishing his work, he set himself back on his feet and put the panel back in place. Almost done. There were just the final touches he had to put on the energy scythe, and then he could take a quick nap. He yawned happily at the thought of sleep. That's what happens when you only get two hours of sleep in one night. He gazed across the wide space at Heero, who seemed to be finished with the wiring. Well...a few minutes of sleep wouldn't hurt...and where would I sleep safer than next to Heero?
Duo dropped down onto the bottom of his hatch and eased into a corner, curling up into the cramped space. He whipped his head back just a bit to gather his braid beneath himself, forming a soft pillow, and closed his eyes.
we live for love
Duo smiled in his sleep, dreaming of a gorgeous sunset.
we live for love
And Heero had him wrapped up in a warm embrace.
tell me you're tired
and watch the summer fade away
will you think of romance
what will we do
Heero halted abruptly, turning away from the Wing's machinery in confusion. Something was wrong. He scanned the hangar and searched for anything out of place, but he couldn't see anything. With a scowl, he reached out to continue working. Instead he pounded his fist on the wall and whirled around again. His instincts told him something was different, and he couldn't relax until he found out what it was. He was about to call Duo when he realized that was it.
Duo wasn't there.
But then why is his hatch still open? he wondered. He jumped from his gundam and ran along the catwalk, thinking that Duo had merely forgotten to seal Deathscythe up again. To his surprise, he found Duo nestled up inside. Heero's first thought was that Duo had fallen off of his perch and given himself a concussion. Stupid stupid stupid Duo! he railed silently, vaulting up into the open cockpit. Heero leaned over the other pilot and noticed how his braid was coiled up, and how tight he'd settled down. He's just asleep...Heero swallowed nervously.
is there a place where we can go
where time stands still for those
who go to eternity
we'll fulfill our desires
He knelt next to Duo, gently pushing away the bangs that had fallen into his face. Unconsciously, Duo's smile softened and he all but purred contentedly. Twisting onto his side, he tilted his head up an inch or two. "Heero..."
The other pilot held in his gasp. Did Duo know he was there...?
we live for love
"Love you..." Duo whispered in a loose voice.
we live for love
Emotions that he hadn't felt in ages began to fight in Heero's head.
we live for love
Heero shook his head. I'll take on hordes of enemies, but I'm afraid of one kiss?
we live for love
He leaned farther down, and nodded. Yes.
I never planned to win the race
but you convinced me face to face
there was never a chance of losing at all
Without warning, the choice was taken away from him. Duo, sensing that someone was near, suddenly opened his eyes and tried to sit up. Instead their lips were rammed together. Caught off guard, Duo began to slip backwards, and Heero instinctually caught him, holding him up.
Duo's thoughts ran wild, outpacing his ability to keep track of them, until he decided forget about thinking and forced their surprise kiss to last longer. He threw his arms around Heero's slim waist and pulled him close. His fingers slid through the unruly hair while he felt Heero's hand stroke his braid, and he forgave Heero the mild tremors going through his warm body. He'd never been trained for this situation, after all.
we live for love
Finally they drew away, starved for air, and stared into each other's eyes.
we live for love
"What a way to wake up," Duo grinned.
we live for love
"You mean...you don't mind?" Heero asked in a hesitant voice.
we live for love
Duo shook his head, stealing another, faster kiss. "Why in space would I mind?"
The End
