Mailing List FAQ

1. Are crossovers allowed?

Yes, crossovers are fine. They aren't everyone's cup of tea, but a good one can be a lot of fun. I've even put up a new crossover section, so feel free to send crossovers to the list.

2. Is Real Person Slash allowed?

Nope. This is an Andromeda list and is therefore devoted to the characters of the show, not the actors. RPS is a no-no.  Discussion about how hot the actors are, and their place as sex symbols in the gay community or a comment about being the meat in a hot actor/actress sandwich is fine though.

3. How about under-age sex?

Okay, tricky one here. Since I'm European I have fairly flexible ideas about the age of sexual maturity. I'll go with nothing graphic under the age of 14, please. If you post a story with a participant under 18 please say so in the header so anyone with an age-squick can skip it.

4. Non-consensual sex?

Yes, non-con is fine, just make sure you label it clearly at the top of your post. Preferably in capitals.

5. Someone was being a dick, can I flame them?

Do it privately please. Flaming in public is tacky and childish.

6. Can I send off-topic posts?

It depends on the post. 'I had cheese for lunch!' is an irrelevant post; save it for your LiveJournal. 'I've just had a baby!' or 'a meteor hit my car!' is something we can all be interested in. News about other fandoms is okay too: finding out a list-sib won a writing award in say... Xena fanfic is a buzz.

7. Is this a discussion list, or just for fanfic?

Discuss away! A good discussion sometimes raises interesting questions that us fanficcers just have to answer. It's also nice to read about how the show is perceived to other rabid fans.

8. Can I post general fanfiction here?

If you want. I reserve the right to only archive the rude stuff though. Andromeda Uncovered is affiliated with Andromeda Archive so gen stories can go there.  I believe the AA archivist is a member of this list, you can ask her.

9. I'm not a writer, I just lurk. Should I make a 'hello' post?

Yes! Get your butt out here and say hi! The subscriber list isn't open, so the writers have no idea who is reading their stuff. Even if you never FB a writer, let us know you aren't a ghost. We want to get to know you!

10. I read a great story on the list. Should I send feedback to the list or the writer?

Either. It's up to you. If you're the shy type do it privately, if you like being public, go for the list. Please respect writers that put 'private feedback' requests on their fics though.

11. Can I send critiques to the list?

Unsolicited critiques displayed in a public forum can be seen as offensive by more sensitive writers. A few paragraphs of feedback is fine. Please don't send a two-page, detailed breakdown of someone's work to the list unless they ask for one.  What you do off-list is up to you.

13. I wrote a story, but I'm bad at grammar. What should I do?

Post here asking for a beta reader. Please. Poor spelling and grammar can make a good story Hell. I encourage everyone who writes to have a beta.

13. Most of the stuff here is slash. Is this a slash list?

Nope, it’s an adult list. I archive all types of sex: het, slash, orgy, kinky alien shit, even Mary-Sues. People just like slash a lot in this fandom, that's all.

14. I'm a bit shy about my work, can I post it here without it going on the web-page?

Yup, just put a 'DO NOT ARCHIVE' note at the top of your story and I'll leave it alone. It will stay in the mailing list archive on Squidge though.

15. I'm very mature for my age. Can I subscribe?

Eeek! I don't want to know about under 18 subscribers! By joining this list you are making a public declaration that you are over the age of consent in your area. If you aren't and you get caught I don't want irate parents telling me I corrupted their spawn. Stick to stuff that isn't going to have your e-mail addy on incriminating evidence.

16. I wrote a story for AU, but I don't want to post it on the list. Can I send it directly to you?

Yup, sure. Send it as a Word, html or rtf file to me at andromeda_uncovered@hotmail.com or maryavatar@yahoo.com

17. There are a couple of people on the list who annoy me by writing stories that paint my favourite character in a bad light.  Would you tell them to stop it please?

Nope, sorry.  As long as list sibs stick to the rules on the submission guidelines page they're free to write what they want.  I don't censor people for being rude unless their rudeness is directed towards another list member or a member of the on-line fandom community.

18. Is there any special information I should send with my story?

I don't want to be a template Nazi, but putting the following details at the top does help a lot:

Title
Author
Rating
Pairing
E-mail
Disclaimer
Warnings/notes
Summary
